Bethesda Mennonite Church Leadership

Weldon Martens is Bethesda’s Lead Pastor. He has served at Bethesda since 1995. Prior to this, he was pastor at the Pleasant Valley Mennonite Church at Harper, Kansas. He received his undergraduate education at Bethel College, N. Newton, Kansas, and obtained a Master of Divinity degree at Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary in Elkhart, Indiana. His duties at Bethesda range from preaching to administration, to pastoral care. He and his wife, Jenny, are the parents of two daughters.

Jeff Selzer serves as the Youth Pastor at Bethesda. He was installed in January, 2005. After working as a physical therapist assistant for 6 ½ years, Jeff returned to school and completed a BA in Christian Ministries through Tabor College of Wichita, a satellite site of the main campus at Hillsboro. Jeff is also a graduate of Hesston College in Hesston, Kansas and attended Goshen College in Goshen, IN. Jeff and his wife, Dana are parents of three children: Quintin, Abby and Zach. Rachel Friesen serves as Bethesda’s Interim Associate Pastor. She began in July, 2007. Prior to this, Rachel and her husband, Ivan served as co-pastors of Hutterthal Mennonite Church in Freeman, South Dakota since 1999. They also served with MCC in the West Bank from 1968-1971 and with Africa Inter-Mennonite Mission in Botswana from 1986-1992. They co-pastored at Oak Hill Mennonite Church in Winston-Salem, North Carolina from 1993-1999 and were ordained in the Virginia Mennonite Conference. Pastor Rachel’s duties include Pastoral Care, giving leadership to funerals and weddings and preaching/worship leading as called upon, among other things. E-mail link pastorrachel@mainstaycomm.net
